When it comes to indoor cannabis cultivation — air circulation is one of the most overlooked aspects of the grow room.

From fresh air exchange to temperature control, air circulation is a vital component of a successful indoor cannabis garden. If you’re ready to take charge of your grow tents’ environment — you need to buy the best grow tent fan available.

Below, you’ll find hands-on reviews of the best grow tent fans for sale. Whether you’re looking for an inline fan or a clip-on fan — the options listed below are well worth your consideration.

What are Grow Tent Fans?

Grow tent fans are purpose-built tools to enhance air circulation and overall ventilation in indoor marijuana gardens.

Specifically, grow tent fans are meant to

  • Increase fresh air exchange
  • Elevate CO2 concentration
  • Regulate the environment (temperature/humidity)
  • Mimic the wind to strengthen cannabis plants

What are the Different Types of Grow Tent Fans?

When you search for grow tent fans — you’ll come across many different types of products that do not look the same.

Below, you’ll find a brief description of each type of grow tent fan to ensure you buy the right product for your needs.

Inline Fans

Inline fans are the backbone of grow tent ventilation by providing powerful air intake and outtake.

Inline fans are typically connected to ducting, where the fan sucks air into the tent and blows hot and humid air out of the tent. Additionally, inline fans can be connected to carbon filters and grow light hoods to reduce the aroma of cannabis.

Furthermore, inline fans are usually connected to grow light hoods to drastically reduce the heat emanating from the light to ensure the ideal temperature in the grow tent.

Overall, inline fans can be connected to environmental controllers to maintain the best environment possible for your cannabis crop.

Oscillating Fans

Oscillating fans are efficient products that direct air movement across the grow tent by oscillating in multiple directions over a short period of time.

Oscillating fans come in many different sizes and styles, but their main use is to provide air circulation throughout the plant canopy.

Clip-On Fans

Clip-on fans are generally small products that are used in small growing spaces.

As the name implies, clip-on fans are clipped onto the support structure of the grow tent (poles). Although clip-on fans generate less power than oscillating and inline fans — they provide airflow to hard-to-reach and small areas.

Axial Fans

Also known as inline booster duct fans, axial fans are high-powered products that are placed within ducting to boost air throughout the ventilation system.

Overall, axial fans are preferred by cultivators who use large grow tents or rooms that require many angles in their ducting.

How Do You Choose the Best Grow Tent Fan?

Before you buy a grow tent fan — you must answer a few essential questions to ensure you find the perfect product for your needs.

How Much Circulating Power Does Your Grow Room Need?

Whether you need to ventilate or circulate the air in your grow tent — you’ll need to understand CFM.

CFM stands for cubic feet per minute. Overall, CFM is the standard measurement for cannabis cultivators because it represents the amount of air that must be exchanged or circulated per minute.

For inline fans that are bringing in fresh air and exhausting hot air out — you need to perform a few equations to get the desired CFM rating.

Measure your grow tent by its length x width x height.

Once done — you’ll have your base CFM requirement. However, inline fans are typically connected to ducting, carbon filters, and other growing equipment, which requires more CFM.

In general, you should multiply your base CFM by 3 to get the ballpark figure of your ideal CFM coverage. In the case of a 4×4 grow tent, you should have at least 210 CFM to ensure adequate air exchange.

What is Your Preferred Budget Range?

Grow tent fans for marijuana gardens typically cost between $20-200.

As you can see — there is a large price gap. However, not all grow tent fans are created equal. Overall, inline fans cost more than small clip-on fans. Alternatively, high-quality oscillating fans may cost more than heavy-duty inline fans.

Do You Require Air Circulation or Overall Air Ventilation?

Another important consideration is determining if you need complete ventilation or air circulation.

Air circulation is accomplished with the help of an oscillating fan, stationary fan, or clip-on fan. Each of these products is meant to blow air across the canopy to guard against mold and stagnant air.

Alternatively, air ventilation is the complete circulating system that brings fresh air in and hot air out. The primary products to create an efficient ventilation system are the inline fan and axial booster fan.

Both the axial booster fan and inline fan are connected to ducting, carbon filters, lighting systems, and other pieces of equipment to work in a seamless and efficient fashion.

Buying a grow tent fan becomes a relatively simple process once you determine the purpose of the product.

Specifications:

  • Dimensions: ‎6” x 6” x 7”

  • Fan Size: 6”

My Experience With the Vivosun Inline Duct Booster Fan

When you grow cannabis in a large tent (4×8 and above) — you’ll likely need an additional booster fan to give your primary inline fan backup.

In my 4×8 grow tent, I use an 8” AC Infinity CLOUDLINE T8 because it offers ample CFM to bring air into the tent. However, the ducting is routed across the ceiling of the tent, and each bend diminishes its CFM performance.

Therefore, I added the Vivosun Inline Duct Booster Fan to give an additional 240 CFM to ensure the warm air is exhausted out of the tent with ease.

After multiple grows and harvests, the Vivosun Inline Duct Booster still looks and performs as if it was brand new. Lastly, the Vivosun Inline Duct Booster is incredibly easy to set up and use — making it a perfect fit for beginners and professionals alike.

Don’t let your cannabis crop and your grow tent suffer from low CFMs — boost your airpower with the help of the Vivosun Inline Duct Booster Fan.

The Benefits of Grow Tent Fans

Now, let’s briefly look at the advantages of using grow tent fans in your indoor cannabis garden.

Grow Tent Fans Provide Fresh Air

The primary aim of grow tent fans is to provide fresh air across the cannabis canopy.

Marijuana plants require CO2 to perform photosynthesis and other essential functions. Your cannabis plants may lose their vigor and grow sluggishly without fresh air.

As humans, we strive for a breath of fresh air — especially if you live in a congested city filled with smog. Your marijuana crop demands the same desire — to consume fresh air to grow to its maximum potential.

Grow Tent Fans Reduce the Possibility of Mold in the Weed Garden

Whether you grow a single cannabis plant or a dozen — mold or mildew is a very real possibility.

In most cases, mold and mildew occur when cannabis leaves touch each other. Therefore, you need to use a grow tent fan to continuously blow fresh air throughout the cannabis canopy to keep the leaves moving.

Therefore, products such as oscillating fans or clip-on fans are a cultivator’s secret weapon to keeping mold and mildew at bay.

Grow Tent Fans Decrease Heat Accumulation

Whether you grow with an HPS or LED — your grow tent will experience a bump in heat accumulation.

Inline and axial booster fans are crafted to work in conjunction with ducting to direct hot air out of the grow room. Using a ventilation system with ducting will remove the hot air before it becomes a problem for your cannabis crop.

Grow Tent Fans Boost Stem Strength in Cannabis Plants

One of the most overlooked aspects of grow tent fans is the fact that they strengthen cannabis plants.

Marijuana plants grown without air circulation are typically weak and break easily once placed outdoors. However, weed plants that are grown in a windy environment (whether naturally or via fan) produce thicker stems and can adapt easily to unforgiving weather patterns.

Once harvest time arrives, you’ll be glad you used a grow tent fan to strengthen those stems because they’ll handle ounces of top-shelf buds with ease.

Conclusion

Now that you understand the importance of grow tent fans and cannabis plants — it’s time to consider your options.

hurricane clip fans do not hold onto poles and extremely poor air movement. do not buy or use unless for a desk/office.
